8 Weird Features You Didn’t Know About

Many vehicles have so many features that we have never even heard about much less have used. We have compiled a list of our favorite features below that you will enjoy learning more about!

Conversation Mirror

  • The conversation mirror is commonly found in SUVs and minivans. Located near the rearview mirror it allows the driver to see what is going on the backseat. This can be especially helpful if your passengers are often children, dogs, and any other important cargo that you need to keep an eye on in the backseat.

Gas Tank Locator

  • The gas tank locator feature can become very helpful in an unfamiliar vehicle. For example, if you are driving a friend’s vehicle or have a rental car, it is very helpful to know which side you need to pull up on to fill up your tank. This feature has been standard on most new cars for a better part of a decade.

Calling Cattle

  • Did you know that using your car horn has the ability to call cattle when it is feeding time? Ranchers often use their vehicle’s horn to call cattle when it’s feeding time because it sounds similar to a cow calling her calf.

Rear-View Mirror Dimmer

  • Have you ever had a vehicle following you with their high-beams or brights on? If you just flip up on the lever on the rear-view mirror you can have a dimmer view of what is behind your vehicle. In newer vehicles, instead of the lever, there is just an on/off button to activate this feature.

Built-in Vacuum

  • The built-in HondaVac is a built-in vacuum that comes in the 2014 and newer Honda Odysseys. It was developed with the help of Shop-Vac and has a powerful motor that is 16.5 feet long and can reach the entirety of the van. The vacuum can run for 8 minutes once the engine is turned off and can run as long as needed if the engine is running.

Traffic Light Countdown Timer

  • Have you ever been waiting on a traffic light and wondered how much longer it will be? Audi is working on a solution for that exact question. Depending on when your city has or will implement such infrastructure, Audi will have a countdown to when the light will change available for you! This feature may cause drivers to be distracted until the light changes and will also give red light drag racers the upper hand against their competition!

Drowsiness Detector

  • Many accidents are caused because drivers are very tired and are trying to push through their drowsiness. Manufacturers are working on detection systems that monitor how well you’re staying in your lane along with other factors. The other factors are either implemented or will be implemented in the future are things like how long you’ve been driving, monitoring heart rate, monitor breathing, and calculate posture changes and eye movements.

Built-In Night Vision

  • Companies like Audi, Mercedes, and BMW have developed a night vision dashboard system that picks up animals, pedestrians, and other potential hazards on the road. Using infrared technology within the headlights, the system will alert you if anything is detected near the road. With this technology it will give those nighttime drivers a better chance at arriving at their destination safely.
