How To Buy A Light Bar For Your Truck

Finding the right light bar for your truck is actually a pretty simple process.  Most light bars are not vehicle specific and come with universal mounting brackets.  The only decision you really need to make is how much light do you want, what beam pattern will work best for you and how long do you want your light bar to be.

Determine the beam pattern for your truck light bar

Spot Beam

A spot beam has a narrow beam spread of only 30°C. Spot beam patterns are typically used for task specific lighting. Spot beams are used when you want your light focused in a specific area - such as when driving down a trail.

Flood Beam

The flood beam pattern typically has a wide 60°C beam pattern which results in the light being more spread out. If you will want to light up a specific area such as a campsite or the shoreline for some night fishing, the flood beam is your friend.

Combo Beam Pattern

Combo beam patterns are the most versatile a combo beam may be for you.  The you won't have the strength and brightness of a true spot beam nor the coverate of a flood beam, however it will provide a good mix of both and should beet the demands of your varying usage.

Determine the length of your desired lightbar

Light bars will typically come in varying lengths.  The longer the bar the more light it will produce.  For example, the Double Row LED Light Bars from Totron are available in 8-inch, 14-inch, 22-inch, 32-inch, 42-inch, and 50-inch lengths.  You will want to pick a bar that fits on your vehicle and provides the type of lighting you desire.  Some consideratons for the length of your light bar will be how much light you'd want it to produce or what will actually fit nicely on the front of your truck and be asthetically pleasing.
