The offset with these brackets will move the flap away from the tire providing you extra clearance between the tire and mud flap and will help prevent the tire from rubbing on the flap. A good rule of thumb is if there is less than 1" of clearance when you have your tires turned an offset bracket will be a good idea. These brackets are not recommended for truck with OEM step bars that come up flush with the wheel well. The nature of the bracket itself will move the flap back into the bar and it will not fit. Using this bracket will also allow a more customizable length with the flap since the flap will mount at the base of the fender.
