Not necessarily needed. BUT... Sure makes installation a whole lot easier!

Easy install
Purchasing these was a no brainier for a very easy installation on a 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500. These trucks have a very narrow area to mount mudflaps. The brackets provide a mounting area for the whole mud flap and make them much more stiff. I would highly recommend these to anyone.
