Equip your truck or SUV for a wider range of trailers with the B&W Tow & Stow Adjustable Dual-Ball Mount. Designed for a standard 2 receiver hitch, this premium adjustable ball mount combines a 2" hitch ball, a 2-5/16" hitch ball, multiple towing-height positions, and B&W’s convenient stowable design in one durable towing accessory.
With up to a 7" drop and approximately 7-1/2" of rise, this model is especially well suited for lifted pickup trucks, vehicles with oversized tires, tall receiver heights, and towing combinations where a standard fixed ball mount cannot keep the trailer level. Height adjustments are made in 1" increments, allowing you to position the hitch ball closer to the trailer coupler’s proper operating height.
When towing is complete, the ball platform rotates underneath the receiver, moving the hitch balls away from your legs, garage door, and rear cargo area. Built in the USA from high-strength steel and protected by a durable black, UV-resistant finish, the B&W Tow & Stow is a worthwhile performance upgrade for customers who need strength, versatility, security, and everyday towing convenience.
Key Features
- 7" drop with multiple rise positions – Helps level trailers behind lifted trucks and other vehicles with high receiver openings for more stable, predictable towing
- Integrated 2" and 2-5/16" hitch balls – Lets you switch between two common trailer-coupler sizes without carrying separate ball mounts or removing bolted hitch balls
- Patented stowable design – Rotates underneath the receiver when not in use, reducing rearward obstruction and helping protect your shins and garage door
- High-strength, American-made steel construction – Delivers dependable towing strength while the black UV-resistant finish and stainless-steel pins help withstand weather and regular use
Adjustable Height for Level Towing
A trailer should generally sit level when connected to the tow vehicle. If the trailer rides significantly nose-high or nose-low, its axle loading, ground clearance, braking behavior, and handling can be affected.
The Tow & Stow uses two removable adjustment pins that allow the ball platform to move vertically along the hitch’s adjustment channel. Height changes are available in approximately 1" increments, making it easier to match the ball height to different trailers.
In its standard orientation, this model provides up to a 7" drop. When a rise position is required, the ball mount can be inverted in the receiver. This gives owners of lifted trucks and tall SUVs considerably more flexibility than a conventional fixed-height ball mount.
How to Determine the Required Drop
Before ordering, park the tow vehicle and loaded trailer on level ground
- Measure from the ground to the top inside edge of the vehicle’s receiver opening
- Level the trailer and measure from the ground to the bottom of its coupler
- Subtract the trailer-coupler measurement from the receiver measurement
Vehicle suspension squat after the trailer is attached may change the final height. After coupling, confirm that the loaded trailer remains reasonably level and make another adjustment when necessary.
Dual-Ball Convenience
The integrated dual-ball assembly provides two commonly used towing-ball sizes:
- 2" hitch ball
- 2-5/16" hitch ball
Changing ball sizes is accomplished by removing the applicable retaining pin, rotating the ball assembly, and reinstalling the pin and clip. There is no need to loosen a large hitch-ball nut or carry an additional ball mount in the truck.
Always use the exact hitch-ball diameter specified on the trailer coupler. A 2-5/16" coupler must never be placed on a 2" ball, even when the coupler appears to latch.
10,000-Lb Towing Capacity
This 2"-receiver Tow & Stow configuration is rated for up to:
- 10,000 lbs gross trailer weight
- 1,000 lbs vertical tow weight
Stowable Design
One of the Tow & Stow’s most useful features is its ability to remain on the vehicle without leaving the hitch balls projecting behind the bumper.
When towing is finished, the ball platform can be rotated underneath the receiver and secured in the stowed position. This helps:
- Reduce the chance of striking your shin on an exposed hitch ball
- Improve access behind the vehicle
- Reduce interference near the tailgate or cargo area
- Help prevent contact with a garage door
- Eliminate the need to store a greasy ball mount inside the vehicle
- Keep the towing equipment readily available for the next trailer
B&W specifically positions the stowable arrangement as a way to keep the ball mount clear of legs and garage doors when it is not being used.
High-Strength Steel Construction
The Tow & Stow is manufactured from high-strength steel for dependable performance under demanding towing conditions. Its shank, vertical adjustment block, swingarm, and ball assembly are engineered as a unified towing system rather than a collection of unrelated components.
This construction makes it a strong choice for work trucks, farm vehicles, recreational tow vehicles, and everyday drivers who regularly change trailers.
Long-Lasting Black Finish
The steel components are protected by a durable black finish designed to resist weather, ultraviolet exposure, and normal road use. B&W describes its Tow & Stow coating as a UV-resistant powder-coat finish intended to maintain its appearance over time.
No finish is completely immune to wear. Repeated pin movement, receiver contact, road debris, and salt exposure can eventually damage the coating. Cleaning and prompt touch-up of exposed steel can help prevent surface corrosion from spreading.
Stainless-Steel Pins
Three stainless-steel pins control the Tow & Stow’s adjustment and ball-selection functions. Stainless steel offers improved resistance to corrosion compared with ordinary unfinished steel, which is helpful because the pins are repeatedly handled and exposed to moisture.
The pins must still be cleaned and lubricated. Stainless steel can seize or corrode when dirt, road salt, moisture, and dissimilar metals remain in contact for extended periods.
B&W recommends keeping all three pins clean and applying a thin coating of white lithium grease to prevent them from freezing in place.
Anti-Theft Retention Design
The Tow & Stow incorporates a slide-pin retention system that keeps the swingarm and hitch-ball assembly captured on the shank, even when the primary adjustment pins are removed.
Once the shank is locked into the receiver, the adjustable assembly cannot simply be pulled away from the vehicle. This helps discourage theft and allows the ball mount to remain installed with greater confidence.
A separate locking receiver pin is still required to secure the complete Tow & Stow to the vehicle. B&W explicitly recommends adding a hitch lock to keep the shank secure.
The anti-theft design does not replace proper locking equipment, and it does not guarantee that the product cannot be stolen.
Vehicle Compatibility
This model is intended for vehicles equipped with a standard 2" by 2" receiver opening.
Chevrolet Multi-Flex and GMC MultiPro Warning
This Tow & Stow model is not compatible with Chevrolet Multi-Flex or GMC MultiPro tailgates when those tailgates have a folding inner step.
The step can contact a conventional ball mount when lowered, potentially damaging the tailgate. B&W manufactures a dedicated MultiPro/MultiFlex Tow & Stow with machined clearance areas for those trucks. Owners of affected Chevrolet and GMC pickups should select the dedicated model instead of TS10040B.
Not Compatible with Weight-Distribution Hitches
The standard Tow & Stow is a conventional adjustable ball mount. It is not designed to function as the head assembly for a weight-distribution hitch.
Weight-distribution systems use specialized heads, spring bars, brackets, and attachment geometry. Those components cannot be properly added to the Tow & Stow.
Not Compatible with Receiver-Mounted Sway-Control Systems
Sway-bar systems requiring specialized receiver or hitch-head attachments are not compatible with the Tow & Stow.
Pintle Option
B&W offers Tow & Stow products with pintle capability, but the TS10040B is not the pintle version.
