The B&W Tow & Stow Tri-Ball is the most versatile hitch B&W makes — an adjustable, stowable ball mount that carries all three common ball sizes at once and replaces a whole drawer of fixed ball mounts with a single unit. Where a dual-ball covers two coupler sizes, this tri-ball adds a 1-7/8" ball alongside the 2" and 2-5/16", so you're ready for practically any bumper-pull trailer you'll encounter — small utility and boat trailers, mid-size campers, and heavier equipment and cargo trailers. It fits a 2" receiver, delivers a 3" drop or 3.5" rise, adjusts for level towing, and folds behind the bumper when you're done so it's out of the way of your shins and garage door.
It's the ideal pick for anyone who tows a genuinely mixed fleet — the homeowner with a small utility trailer, a boat, and a camper; the pro who hooks up whatever's on the lot that day; the family that borrows and rents trailers with couplers you can't predict. The 3" drop is B&W's recommendation for most standard-height vehicles (lifted trucks or oversized tires may want a deeper 5", 7", or 9" drop). The payoff is maximum versatility, safety, and longevity in one American-made package: three ball sizes on demand, adjustable level towing, a tuck-away design, an anti-theft ball setup, and a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Key Features
- Three ball sizes in one mount – Includes 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16" balls, covering all three of the most common trailer coupler sizes so a single hitch fits nearly any bumper-pull trailer
- Adjustable height for level towing – Pull two pins to raise or lower the mount in 1" increments (3" drop or 3.5" rise by inverting it), so your trailer rides level and tows straight
- Stows behind the bumper – Fold it down and out of the way when not towing to protect your shins, garage door, and bumper
- Anti-theft, secure design – With the hitch locked in your receiver, a slide pin keeps the swing arm and balls attached so they can't just be pulled off (add a hitch lock to fully secure the shank)
One Hitch That Truly Does It All
The Tow & Stow's whole idea is one hitch that does the job of many — and the tri-ball takes that as far as it goes. Ball size: the swing arm carries a 1-7/8", a 2", and a 2-5/16" ball, so between the three you can hook up nearly any bumper-pull trailer without ever carrying a spare mount. Pull the front pin, rotate the block until the ball you need is on top, and reinsert the pin. Height: pulling two stainless pins lets you move the mount in one-inch increments, and inverting it in the receiver gives you the 3.5" rise position — the key to keeping any trailer level, which is what keeps it towing straight and braking safely. Stowability: when you're done, it folds behind the bumper instead of jutting out.
Material quality is where B&W separates itself. This Tow & Stow is built from high-strength American-made steel with high-yield tubing and in-house welds, then protected by a genuine two-step finish — an E-coat base under an ironclad black powder coat — while the balls get dual-process chrome plating for rust resistance. This model is Class IV rated and, like every Tow & Stow, tested for strength and endurance to SAE J684, the current bumper-pull hitch standard. B&W builds them start-to-finish in Humboldt, Kansas — one of the last remaining American hitch makers.
A note on capacity, because it's especially important on a tri-ball. The frame carries a Gross Trailer Weight rating of 10,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight rating of 1,000 lbs, but each ball is rated individually: the 1-7/8" ball is rated 3,500 lbs, the 2" ball 7,500 lbs, and the 2-5/16" ball the full 10,000 lbs. Only the largest ball reaches the headline number — so always tow within the rating of the specific ball you're using, and remember your true limit is the lowest-rated link in the chain: the ball, the hitch, your vehicle's receiver, and your vehicle's tow rating. A pintle hitch option is available separately for heavier or pintle-style needs.
Installation & Use
There's really no installation — the Tow & Stow uses your existing factory receiver.
- Setup: Slide the shank into your 2" receiver (it has two pin-hole positions for length adjustment — sliding it in as far as possible is best for strength and theft resistance), insert your hitch pin — a locking pin is recommended — and you're ready.
- Tools required: None for basic use; adjustments are made by hand by pulling the stainless pins.
- Adjusting height: Pull the two pins, set the swing arm to the height that levels your loaded trailer, and reinsert the pins.
- Changing ball size: Pull the front pin, rotate the ball block until the size you need is on top, and reinsert the pin.
- Stowing: When not towing, fold the arm down behind the bumper.
- Ground clearance: Make sure you have adequate clearance — striking curbs, steep driveways, or obstacles can damage the hitch.
- Compatibility note: The Tow & Stow is not compatible with weight-distribution or sway-bar systems, which use specialized attachment pieces that don't work with this hitch.
What's Included

Care & Maintenance
The Tow & Stow is famously low-maintenance, but one step keeps it working smoothly for life:
- Lubricate the pins: Apply white lithium grease to all three stainless steel pins, and keep them clean and greased so they never seize. This is the single most important maintenance item.
- Keep it clean: Rinse off road salt, mud, and grime periodically — especially after winter or coastal driving — to protect the finish.
- Grease the balls: Lightly grease the ball in use to reduce coupler wear.
- Inspect before towing: Confirm the pins are fully seated and the slide pin is engaged, and periodically check the welds and finish for damage.
- Storage: Simply stow it behind the bumper, or remove and keep it somewhere dry; keep the shank clean so it slides in and out easily.
Warranty
This Tow & Stow is backed by B&W's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
- Covered: B&W stands behind the Tow & Stow against design and quality/manufacturing defects for the life of the product.
- Accident/misuse: Damage from accidents or misuse isn't a defect claim.
Terms to Know
- Tri-ball: A swing arm carrying three ball sizes (here 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16") so one hitch fits nearly every common coupler.
- Drop: How far the ball sits *belowthe receiver opening — needed when your truck's receiver is higher than the trailer coupler. B&W recommends a 3" drop for most standard vehicles; lifted trucks or big tires may need 5", 7", or 9".
- Rise: The ball positioned *above the receiver, achieved by inverting the Tow & Stow (3.5" rise on this model).
- 1-7/8" ball: The smallest common trailer ball, used on many small utility, boat, and camper trailers; rated 3,500 lbs here.
- GTW (Gross Trailer Weight): The maximum total loaded trailer weight — capped by the ball you use: 3,500 lbs (1-7/8"), 7,500 lbs (2"), or 10,000 lbs (2-5/16").
- VTW / TW (Vertical/Tongue Weight): The downward weight the trailer places on the ball — 1,000 lbs frame rating. To measure: weigh your loaded rig, then subtract the vehicle-only weight with the tongue weight removed.
- Class IV: A hitch strength class covering heavier towing (typically up to 10,000 lbs GTW) — the class this Tow & Stow falls in.
- E-coat: An electrocoat primer applied under the powder coat for extra corrosion protection — a genuine two-layer finish here.
- SAE J684: The industry test standard for strength and endurance of bumper-pull hitches; every Tow & Stow is tested to it.
- Weight-distribution / sway-bar system: Add-on systems that spread tongue weight or resist sway. Not compatible with the Tow & Stow.
