The B&W Tow & Stow for GM MultiPro / MultiFlex Tailgates solves a problem unique to late-model GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado owners: the fold-down inner gate and step on those tailgates can slam into a normal ball mount when lowered, denting an expensive tailgate. B&W engineered this version with machined cutouts in the adjustment block so the inner step clears the hitch - letting you keep using your tailgate's best feature without worry. This is the tri-ball, 4.5" drop version: an adjustable, stowable mount carrying all three common ball sizes (1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16") that folds behind the bumper when you're done.
It's the correct hitch for anyone running a GMC Sierra MultiPro or Chevy Silverado MultiFlex tailgate who tows a mixed fleet of trailers. The 4.5" drop / 5.5" rise gives you more reach than the 2.5"-drop MultiPro version — a good match for trucks that sit a bit higher, or trailers with lower couplers — and between the three ball sizes you're ready for nearly any bumper-pull coupler. The payoff is tailgate protection plus everything the Tow & Stow is known for: adjustable level towing, three ball sizes on demand, a tuck-away design, an anti-theft ball setup, and a Limited Lifetime Warranty - all made in the USA.
Key Features
- MultiPro/MultiFlex tailgate clearance – Machined cutouts in the adjustment block give the tailgate's fold-down inner step room to operate, protecting your tailgate from costly contact damage
- Three ball sizes in one mount – Includes 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16" balls, covering all three of the most common trailer coupler sizes so a single hitch fits nearly any bumper-pull trailer
- 4.5" drop / 5.5" rise, adjustable in 1" increments – A deeper drop than the 2.5" MultiPro version, adjustable across a 1.5"–4.5" drop range to level a wide variety of trailers
- Anti-theft, secure design – With the hitch locked in your receiver, a slide pin keeps the swing arm and balls attached so they can't just be pulled off (add a hitch lock to fully secure the shank)
Engineered Around the MultiPro Tailgate
GM's MultiPro (GMC Sierra) and MultiFlex (Chevy Silverado) tailgates are a genuinely useful feature — a fold-down inner gate with a built-in step. The catch is that when that inner step is lowered, it can strike a conventional ball mount sitting in the receiver, causing dents and expensive tailgate repairs. B&W's answer is this purpose-built Tow & Stow: the vertical adjustment block is machined with cutouts that provide added clearance when the hitch is stowed, so the inner gate and step can operate without hitting the mount. No other ball mount is engineered to work with these tailgates this seamlessly. (For best results, put the Tow & Stow in its stowed position before using the inner-gate step.)
Beyond that clever engineering, it's a full-featured tri-ball Tow & Stow. Ball size: the swing arm carries a 1-7/8", a 2", and a 2-5/16" ball, so between the three you can hook up nearly any bumper-pull trailer — pull the front pin, rotate to the ball you need, reinsert. Height: two stainless pins let you move the mount in 1" increments across a 4.5" drop / 5.5" rise range (roughly 1.5" to 4.5" of drop), so you can level trailers of varying coupler heights. Stowability: fold it behind the bumper when you're done so it's out of the way of your shins and garage door.
Material quality is where B&W separates itself. This Tow & Stow is built from high-strength American-made steel with high-yield tubing and in-house welds, then protected by a genuine two-step finish — an E-coat base under an ironclad black powder coat - while the balls get dual-process chrome plating for rust resistance. It's Class IV rated and tested for strength and endurance to SAE J684, the current bumper-pull hitch standard. B&W builds them start-to-finish in Humboldt, Kansas.
A note on capacity: this 2" receiver model carries a Gross Trailer Weight rating of 10,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight rating of 1,000 lbs, but each ball is rated individually - the 1-7/8" ball 3,500 lbs, the 2" ball 7,500 lbs, and the 2-5/16" ball the full 10,000 lbs. Always tow within the rating of the *specific ball you're using*, and remember your true limit is the lowest-rated link in the chain: the ball, the hitch, your vehicle's receiver, and your vehicle's tow rating.
Installation & Use
There's really no installation — the Tow & Stow uses your existing factory 2" receiver.
- Setup: Slide the shank into your 2" receiver, insert your hitch pin - a locking pin is recommended — and you're ready.
- Tools required: None for basic use; adjustments are made by hand by pulling the stainless pins.
- Adjusting height: Pull the two pins, set the swing arm to the height that levels your loaded trailer, and reinsert the pins.
- Changing ball size: Pull the front pin, rotate the ball block until the size you need is on top, and reinsert the pin.
- Using your tailgate: Before lowering the MultiPro/MultiFlex inner gate and step, put the Tow & Stow in its stowed position so the tailgate clears the mount.
- Compatibility note: The Tow & Stow is not compatible with weight-distribution or sway-bar systems.
What's Included

Care & Maintenance
The Tow & Stow is famously low-maintenance, but one step keeps it working smoothly for life:
- Lubricate the pins: Apply white lithium grease to all three stainless steel pins, and keep them clean and greased so they never seize. This is the single most important maintenance item.
- Keep it clean: Rinse off road salt, mud, and grime periodically — especially after winter or coastal driving — to protect the finish.
- Grease the balls: Lightly grease the ball in use to reduce coupler wear.
- Inspect before towing: Confirm the pins are fully seated and the slide pin is engaged, and periodically check the welds and finish for damage.
- Storage: Simply stow it behind the bumper, or remove and keep it somewhere dry; keep the shank clean so it slides in and out easily.
Warranty
This Tow & Stow is backed by B&W's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
- Covered: B&W stands behind the Tow & Stow against design and quality/manufacturing defects for the life of the product.
- Accident/misuse: Damage from accidents or misuse isn't a defect claim.
- Registration: No registration required — keep your proof of purchase.
Terms to Know
- MultiPro / MultiFlex tailgate: GM's multi-function tailgate — MultiPro on GMC Sierra, MultiFlex on Chevy Silverado — with a fold-down inner gate and built-in step. A standard ball mount can be struck by the lowered step; this hitch is machined to clear it.
- Ball mount / drawbar: The removable piece that slides into your receiver and holds the hitch ball your trailer couples to.
- Tri-ball: A swing arm carrying three ball sizes (here 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16") so one hitch fits nearly every common coupler.
- Drop / rise: How far the ball sits below (drop) or above (rise) the receiver — 4.5" drop / 5.5" rise here, adjustable in 1" increments.
- GTW (Gross Trailer Weight): The maximum total loaded trailer weight — capped by the ball you use: 3,500 lbs (1-7/8"), 7,500 lbs (2"), or 10,000 lbs (2-5/16").
- VTW / TW (Vertical/Tongue Weight): The downward weight the trailer places on the ball — 1,000 lbs frame rating.
- Class IV: A hitch strength class covering heavier towing (typically up to 10,000 lbs GTW) — the class this Tow & Stow falls in.
- E-coat: An electrocoat primer applied under the powder coat for extra corrosion protection — a genuine two-layer finish here.
- SAE J684: The industry test standard for strength and endurance of bumper-pull hitches; every Tow & Stow is tested to it.
- Weight-distribution / sway-bar system: Add-on systems that spread tongue weight or resist sway. Not compatible with the Tow & Stow.
