At a glance

Customer sentiment is overwhelmingly positive: reviewers praise Gatorback/SharpTruck mud flaps as premium, heavy-duty, great-looking protection that fits well and performs in mud/snow/gravel, with standout customer service. The most common negatives are high price and installation/fitment frustrations (sometimes requiring drilling, extra tools, or bracket add-ons), plus occasional missing/damaged hardware or shipping scuffs.

What Customers Liked

  • Consistently described as thick, heavy-duty rubber with substantial weight/plates; durable, flexible in cold weather (snow/ice), doesn’t ‘sail’ at highway speed; many report years of use with minimal wear.
  • Strong reduction in rock chips, mud/salt spray, and debris on paint, running boards/power steps, bumpers, trailers/RVs/boats; better coverage than OEM or molded plastic flaps; wide/long options praised for gravel roads and towing.
  • Many report perfect/direct fit using factory holes, adjustable in/out positioning, good clearance with certain tire sizes (including some 35" setups); brackets/caps/finishing pieces create an OEM-like look.
  • Flaps ‘look sharp’/classy and make trucks stand out; metal logo/weight plates (Ford/Chevy/Ram/GMC/trim packages, flags, black plate/gunmetal/chrome options) are a major purchase driver; replaceable plate concept appreciated.
  • When it goes well, installs are quick (often 30–60 minutes, sometimes without removing wheels); YouTube videos and templates frequently called helpful.
  • Repeated praise for fast shipping, responsive support, easy exchanges, and quick warranty replacements (torn flaps, scratched/damaged plates, wrong items, missing parts), often shipped same day.

Things to Consider

  • Most frequent complaint: ‘pricey/expensive’ (often $600–$1,000); some feel forced into buying additional bracket kits or plates, and a few call it overpaid/poor value.
  • Install can be time-consuming or frustrating on some vehicles/trim levels (wheel well liners, rock rails, factory flaps, dually setups); may require removing wheels, a right-angle drill, cutting slots, drilling into liners/plastic, aligning templates, or two-person help.
  • Multiple reviewers note ‘no-drill’ is misleading—often still requires drilling into plastic liners or flaps/templates (even if not into metal body).
  • Complaints about unclear/mismatched paper instructions vs video, too many similar washers in one bag, lack of labeling left/right, metric vs SAE hardware, bolt length/head size, and desire for black hardware instead of visible silver fasteners.
  • Occasional rubbing with oversized tires/offset wheels; some report holes not lining up, needing to elongate/drill new holes, bracket angles not matching, or flaps sitting too low for off-road use (ground clearance concerns).
  • Reports of scuffed/scratched plates from transit, damaged boxes, missing spacers/washers/clips/screws, wrong parts (e.g., two rear sets), and occasional hardware quality concerns (plastic nut inserts/clips pulling out, flimsy brackets in some kits).
  • A few mentions of rear flaps tearing at contour points over years, concern about clamps rubbing paint (suggest PPF), and metal-on-metal clamp/rust worries in salted winter climates.

I bought the mud to express my pride in the Long Horn edition Ram I was driving. The cost of the mud flap was over twice that of other products of same material and quality. The only difference was the Long Horn Logos. I could not find the mud flaps with Long Horn Logos anywhere else.
the initial quality of the mud flaps was amazing, very heavy rubber material and great logo. They installed very easy. In retrospect, I would only purchase the rear set of flaps with the logo because my running boards hide the front logos.
In less than one year I am seeing rust stains on the logo plate and I can not remove it. It is so sad that I spent so much money on the logo that is now rusting.

Thank you for the review. The good news is what you are seeing is not rust. With the plates made of 304 stainless steel there can be some surface corrosion but that is easily clean up to get the plates looking good as new. Here is a video we have done to show you how easy it is to clean up, https://youtu.be/prEI0Q6d8K4

Rear Flaps and Mounting Brackets; Front Flaps Great! Front Mounting Brackets Bad!

I love the look of these mud flaps!  They certainly should, for the price paid for them.  The rear mounting brackets are pure genius in design; they'll never fall off.  The front brackets, though, are just as bad as the rear ones are great.  To properly mount them, you have to cut the front mud flaps and leave less than a foot of each one!  I modified the brackets to work with the full flaps, but I should NOT have had to do that at these prices.

The mounting/backing plates went in without a hitch. Then went to install the rubber flaps, watched videos and read directions. No holes in the flaps to match the plates. Very confusing, can't locate holes below with plates installed. They say if you buy them from Ford the flaps are predrilled for the 2017 Super Duty. Payed top dollar for these, should be done right. Not happy with them.

2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss

I bought my ZR2 brand new from the dealership and it came with high quality rear mud guards - but none on the front. Disappointing, Chevy, since the ZR2 is a pretty aggressive truck with aggressive stock tires. Within 3 months, I noticed a chip in the paint on the passenger side rear door. That wouldn't have happened if they had front guards similar to the rear ones.

I ended up buying a set from another company and while they looked good on the truck...that's all they did. They didn't really protect much. I live in a rural area with a lot of "minimum maintenance" roads that cut between fields. They're basically black dirt. And when it rains... it becomes heavy, black mud. I do take them relatively often, so my truck isn't a pavement princess by any means. I had taken one of those roads about a month ago after a good rain. Both of the driver side flaps from the other company ended curled up, so they were resting ON the tire. Think like "oJ" if the O is the tire and the J is the flap, just more pronounced. The rear one actually snapped off when I pushed it back down.

Suffice it to say, when I saw these and read that they're 1/4 inch, heavy rubber, I had to buy a set. So far, I've got three of the four installed and I'm already stoked.

Installation is a relative breeze. It IS a bit of a pain with the tires on in a couple places, but even still it's pretty straight-forward. The machine screws that are included are a little on the thin side, compared to the OEM screws so I ended up re-using the OEM ones. They look great and I'm looking forward to the next rain so I can test them out and see how well they handle real mud. Definitely worth the money so far in my book!
