Care & Maintenance
Stainless steel is low-maintenance, but a little care keeps your SmartCap looking sharp and sealing tight for the long haul:

• Cleaning: Wash the exterior with mild automotive soap and water and a soft cloth; rinse and dry. For the stainless surfaces, a stainless/metal-safe cleaner or polish restores shine and helps protect against surface staining.
• Glass & seals: Clean the bonded glass with automotive glass cleaner and keep the door and panel seals clean and free of grit so the cap stays watertight.
• Hinges, struts & locks: Periodically check that the gas struts, cast zinc hinges, and HDPE locks operate smoothly; lubricate hinges and lock mechanisms as needed.
• Air vent: Keep the positive-pressure air vent clear of debris so it can keep doing its job.
• After off-road or winter use: Rinse off road salt, mud, and grime, especially in the seals and around hardware to protect the finish and hardware over time.
• Roof loads: Confirm rack accessories are properly secured and never exceed the 330 lb dynamic / 770 lb static limits.
