The Shocker 14K Air Drop Hitch adds instant air ride towing to your pickup and trailer, transforming a rough, jarring tow into a genuinely smooth one. It's a miniature air suspension unit that mounts between your truck and trailer, channeling road shock, tugs, jerks, bumps, bangs, and sway through a built-in air spring bag and dual urethane bump cushions. The result is a much smoother, safer, more comfortable ride for you and your trailer, and a hitch that actively protects your tow vehicle, your trailer, and your cargo from the damaging forces of a typical hard connection. It slides into any standard 2" receiver and comes with an adjustable chrome combo ball mount offering both a 2" and a 2-5/16" ball with 1/2" to 4-1/2" of drop.
It's ideal for anyone towing bumper-pull trailers, campers, boats, car trailers, and equipment haulers who is tired of the constant bumps, jerks, and vibrations of a rigid hitch. Beyond comfort, the air ride system naturally reduces trailer sway by filtering and absorbing the changing tongue weight that occurs on uneven or rough roads, and owners report saving money by reducing breakage and long-term damage to their equipment, plus fuel savings of 1 or more miles per gallon. Best of all, you can fine-tune the ride: add air for heavier loads or reduce it for lighter ones, dialing in the perfect balance of ride comfort and load control. Made in the USA by Shocker Hitch in Jamestown, ND, it's a smart upgrade for smoother, safer towing every mile.
Key Features
- Built-in air ride suspension for smoother towing – A built-in air spring bag and dual urethane bump cushions absorb road shock, tugs, jerks, bumps, and sway, creating a much smoother ride for both the tow vehicle and the trailer, every mile.
- Adjustable chrome dual combo ball, 1/2" to 4-1/2" drop – Includes both a 2" and a 2-5/16" chrome ball with 1/2" to 4-1/2" of drop and 8 adjustment holes, so you can fit different couplers and level a wide range of trailers.
- Tunable air pressure for any load – Add air for heavier trailers or reduce it for lighter loads to optimize ride comfort, load control, and sway reduction for your exact towing weight.
- Reduces sway, damage, and wear – Filters and absorbs the changing tongue weight that causes sway, reduces the damaging forces of a hard connection (protecting welds, equipment, and cargo), and can improve fuel economy by 1+ MPG.
Features & Benefits
The heart of the Shocker is its industry-leading rocker pivot design. Unlike other air hitches that rely on slides, parallel linkages, rollers, shock absorbers, or multiple airbags, the Shocker uses a shock-damping rocker arm pivot that produces a distinctive down-and-back motion. This motion filters road shock into the integrated air ride system and dual bump cushions, working through the air spring bag, urethane cushions, and a greaseable 1" diameter 1045 carbon steel pivot bolt. That 1" pivot bolt is what allows the pivoting rocker motion to happen smoothly and reliably. It's a simple, effective, and durable design built for years of performance.
The benefits go well beyond comfort. By directing the normal towing resistance between the tow vehicle and trailer through the air ride system, the Shocker produces a much smoother ride and naturally reduces trailer sway, filtering and absorbing the changing tongue weight that occurs when towing on uneven or rough roads. It absorbs the damaging forces of a typical hard connection, which greatly reduces the chances of breaking welds and doing other long-term damage to your equipment and valuable cargo, saving you money on repairs. It's also easier on you, your passengers, animals, tow vehicle, trailer, and cargo, reducing stress and making towing more relaxing and enjoyable, while improving your control of both the truck and the trailer for added safety.
Adjustability is a core advantage. The air bag sits under the receiver tube, allowing a short 10" distance between the mounting pin and ball center, and you can easily optimize the hitch for your tow weight by adding air for heavier loads and reducing air pressure for lighter loads (never exceeding 100 PSI, which can damage the air spring or bushings). Build quality is heavy-duty throughout: 5/16" thick carbon steel side plates with 8 adjustment holes, a thick top plate, the air spring bag, and dual bump cushions. It's finished in an impact-resistant premium safety red textured powder coat on the base frame, with textured matte black on the receiver shank and floating paddle, and the combo ball comes with chrome balls on a black base powder coat. A helpful note versus the heavier-duty models: a leveling spacer block is generally not needed on the 14K air hitch, because its air spring bag is 1" taller than the HD air spring bag. This hitch is designed for use with bumper-pull trailers and will not work with a weight-distribution hitch system.
Installation & Use
- Fitment: Slides into any standard 2" receiver hitch tube; great for pickups, vans, and SUVs with a receiver under the bumper, towing bumper-pull trailers with a 2" or 2-5/16" coupler.
- Setup: Insert the hitch shank into your 2" receiver and secure with the included D-handle receiver pin; attach the combo ball mount using the two included D-handle mount attachment pins.
- Airing up: Add air to the built-in air spring so that, when hooked up and loaded, the metal paddle above the air spring bag sits level. Add air for heavier loads, reduce it for lighter loads. Never exceed 100 PSI.
- Releasing air: Use the provided cotter pin clip to push in on the valve core to release pressure; push down on the paddle or squeeze the plates together to exhaust remaining air.
- Spacer block: Generally not needed on the 14K hitch (its air spring bag is 1" taller than the HD version), but if the paddle sits at more than a 10-degree angle when aired up, a spacer can be added to level it.
- Maintenance tip: Grease the hitch ball to reduce wear and improve shocker action, and keep the 1" pivot bolt greased.
What's Included
- (1) Shocker 14K air ride receiver hitch for 2" receiver, with built-in air ride system and dual bump cushions
- (1) Adjustable 2" & 2-5/16" chrome combo ball mount (1/2" to 4-1/2" drop)
- (3) D-handle mount attachment pins with clips (two for the mount attachment, one for your receiver)
*A selection of alternate ball mount attachments (drop, raised, pintle, drawbar, clevis, sway bar tab, and more) is available separately.*
Care & Maintenance
A little routine care keeps your Shocker performing smoothly for years:
- Grease the ball and pivot bolt: Grease the hitch ball to reduce wear and improve shocker action, and keep the greaseable 1" 1045 carbon steel pivot bolt lubricated so the rocker motion stays smooth.
- Check air pressure: Periodically verify the air pressure is set correctly for your load so the paddle sits level; add or release air as your load changes. Never exceed 100 PSI.
- Keep pins clean and secure: Keep the D-handle pins and clips clean and confirm they are fully seated before every tow.
- Keep it clean: Rinse off road salt, mud, and grime periodically, especially after winter or coastal driving, to protect the powder coat finishes.
- Inspect before towing: Check the air spring bag, bump cushions, side plates, welds, and finish for wear or damage; confirm the ball is greased and secure.
- Storage: Store the hitch and ball mount somewhere dry when not in use; keep the shank clean so it slides in and out easily.
