Gatorback Plate Finishes

Here are the different plate finishines

At a glance

Overall sentiment is strongly positive: buyers consistently describe Gatorback/SharpTruck mud flaps as premium, heavy‑duty, great-looking, and highly effective at stopping rocks/mud/snow from hitting paint, steps, and trailers. The main reservations are the high price and occasional installation/fitment or hardware/packaging issues, which are often mitigated by responsive customer service and strong warranty support.

What Customers Liked

  • Thick, heavy rubber with substantial weight plates; feels “OTR/semi-truck grade,” doesn’t flap at highway speeds, flexible in cold weather, holds up through winters, gravel roads, mud, and years of use; many repeat buyers across multiple trucks.
  • Significantly reduces rock chips, road debris, mud/salt spray on paint, rocker panels, running boards/power steps, cameras, and keeps trailers/5th wheels/RVs cleaner and protected; coverage often better than OEM or plastic splash guards.
  • Looks “sharp,” classy, and truck-specific; logo/plate options (Z71, AT4X, Ford, Ram, Duramax, flags, black/satin/gunmetal/chrome) get compliments and help the truck stand out; finishing caps appreciated.
  • Many report perfect/vehicle-specific fit with factory-hole mounting, adjustable in/out positioning, good clearance with stock tires, and compatibility with certain trims/fender flares when configured correctly.
  • Generally described as straightforward with the right tools; helpful YouTube videos; bracket kits (especially rear/dually) add stability and make alignment easier; ability to install without removing wheels on some vehicles.
  • Frequent praise for fast shipping, responsive support, quick exchanges for wrong parts, replacement parts/plates/flaps shipped rapidly, and hassle-free warranty (including tears/rips or shipping damage).
  • Replaceable plates; removable lower section on some models for off-road clearance; ability to adjust flap stick-out; some like drilling only into plastic liner (not body).

Things to Consider

  • Most common complaint; many call them expensive/overpriced (often $600–$1000+), sometimes compounded by needing separate bracket kits/plates; some say alternatives may be “good enough” for less.
  • Mixed experiences: some installs are quick, others take hours—especially rear/dually, with wheel-well liners, rock rails/steps, or limited access; right-angle drill and/or removing rear wheels often recommended; alignment can be finicky.
  • Paper instructions sometimes vague, lacking steps, inconsistent with videos, or confusing (hardware ID, left/right orientation, templates, washer placement); requests for better labeling, templates, and model-specific videos.
  • Occasional reports of holes not lining up, needing to drill/elongate slots, bend/trim brackets, trim liners/trim pieces, or create homemade brackets; some rubbing with oversized tires/offset wheels; a few cases of poor fit on specific trims/years.
  • Multiple reviewers note drilling is still required (usually into plastic liner or flap), so ‘no-drill’ feels misleading in some kits.
  • Some dislike plastic clips/nut inserts pulling out/stripping, mixed metric/SAE hardware, bolt length issues, flimsy/galvanized or plastic brackets at high price, silver hardware visible (wish black), occasional missing/mismatched hardware or parts.
  • Some flaps/plates arrived scuffed/scratched or boxes damaged; brackets loosening in transit; a few wrong items shipped or missing pieces (spacers/washers/clips), though support often resolves quickly.
  • Some note low ground clearance depending on model/height; concerns about snagging in deep snow, tall grass, or off-road obstacles; some wish flaps were longer/shorter depending on use.
  • Plate finish can streak/stain (e.g., gunmetal), color/gloss differs from expectations, logos not level in a few cases, and some wish flaps came pre-slotted/pre-drilled for easier install.

My favorite flaps for a dually

Great product, this is my second set I have purchased, first set went on my older dually. Great quality and very attractive looking. I went with 21 wide since I’m running a spacer in the rear. Covers the tires width well. Also used the 19” flap mount bracket, worked fine for the 21” flaps. I trimmed the corners just so the flap hanger wouldn’t show(see the pics to understand). Highly recommend these for great looks and superior protection.

Designed to withstand tough driving conditions, these mud flaps provide superior protection against rocks, mud, gravel, and other road debris while adding a bold and distinctive look to your truck. With 12-inch wide heavy-duty front rubber flaps and 21-inch wide rear rubber flaps, the set provides 9 inches of tire coverage for the front and 10.5 inches for the rear, ensuring optimal coverage to keep your truck cleaner and prevent paint damage.

Constructed from 1/2" thick virgin rubber, these mud flaps are built to endure harsh weather and off-road conditions, offering both strength and flexibility. The officially licensed Ford F-350 logo adds an authentic touch to your truck's aesthetic, featuring a die-stamped design on 304 stainless steel plates with a hand-applied vinyl overlay. The logo plates measure 10 1/4" x 5" on the front flaps and 17 1/4" x 5" on the rear flaps, providing a polished look that complements the rugged appearance of your Ford truck.

Key Features

  • Heavy-Duty Rubber Construction: Built from 1/2" thick virgin rubber for superior durability and flexibility, designed to withstand the harshest conditions without cracking or tearing.
  • Comprehensive Tire Coverage: The front mud flaps provide 9 inches of tire coverage, while the rear flaps offer 10.5 inches, ensuring optimal protection against road debris and spray.
  • Custom Fit Rear Support Brackets: Includes custom-fit rear support brackets (GB755553) for added stability, keeping the mud flaps securely in place even in challenging driving environments.
  • Distinctive F-350 Logo: The officially licensed Ford F-350 logo is die-stamped onto 304 stainless steel plates, adding a sleek, professional finish.

Installation

Front Flap Installation: The front mud flaps are installed directly onto the lip of the wheel well using self-tapping screws and existing factory fasteners where applicable. Installation is straightforward, requiring only basic tools. Ensure at least 1/2" of clearance between the tire and wheel well to accommodate the flap's thickness. The front flaps are designed to sit flush with the wheel well, integrating seamlessly with side accessories such as step bars or power boards.

Rear Flap Installation: The rear flaps are attached using custom-fit rear support brackets and one or two self-tapping screws to keep them snugly against the wheel well. This installation method ensures the flaps stay firmly in place, preventing them from moving or flapping against the tires, even in demanding driving conditions.

Tire Coverage

  • Front Mud Flaps: Provide 9 inches of tire coverage, effectively minimizing road spray and protecting your truck's finish.
  • Rear Mud Flaps: Offer 10.5 inches of tire coverage, delivering extra protection for the dual rear wheels to maintain a cleaner vehicle.

Care & Maintenance

To keep your Gatorback F-350 Logo Dually Mud Flaps in top condition:

  • Rubber Flaps: Clean regularly with mild soap and water to remove dirt, grime, and road salt. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could degrade the rubber. Applying a rubber protectant can help maintain flexibility and prevent cracking.
  • Stainless Steel Plates: Use a stainless steel cleaner to keep the logo plates shiny and free of debris. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the surface. The 304 stainless steel is resistant to corrosion, making it ideal for tough environments.
  • Mounting Hardware: Periodically check all mounting hardware to ensure it is secure, especially after off-road use or exposure to severe weather.

Manufacturer Warranty

Gatorback Mud Flaps come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty. This warranty covers rubber replacement (e.g., tear-offs) for the original owner. It does not cover damage caused by misuse, abuse, or normal wear and tear on brackets, plates, or mounting hardware.

Terms

  • Virgin Rubber: Rubber that has not been recycled, providing better durability and resistance to wear compared to reclaimed rubber.
  • 304 Stainless Steel: A high-quality stainless steel known for its excellent resistance to corrosion, commonly used in automotive accessories.
  • Die-Stamped: A method where the logo is pressed into the metal, ensuring a long-lasting, high-quality finish.

The Truck Hardware Gatorback F-350 Logo Dually Mud Flaps are an ideal solution for Ford F-350 Dually owners who want reliable, heavy-duty protection and a stylish upgrade for their truck.
