Gatorback Plate Finishes

Here are the different plate finishines

At a glance

Reviews are overwhelmingly positive: customers praise the heavy-duty build, great looks, and strong protection (especially on lifted/wide trucks), with recurring complaints centered on high price, hardware/finish issues, and occasionally unclear instructions or trickier installs.

What Customers Liked

  • Sharp, “big rig” look; chrome brackets add shine; lots of compliments/turns heads; pairs well with fender flares; offset/kickback stance looks great on widened setups.
  • Extremely thick, dump-truck-like rubber; very sturdy/heavy (one mentions 26 lbs for four); expected to last life of the truck; holds up well for winter/salt (hope/expectation).
  • Kickback/offset design provides clearance for lifted trucks, wide tires, wheel spacers; clears wheels nicely (examples: 3–7.5" lifts, 35–37" tires).
  • Reduces rock chips and road debris; stops throwback water/mud; helpful when towing (protecting 5th wheel/trailer).
  • Flaps come longer than needed; easy to cut to desired length with razor; option to leave full length for big lifts.
  • Many report easy install/breeze or mounts up well; generally solid once installed.
  • Quick shipping; exceptional/top-notch customer service; vendor helped resolve a wrong finish issue (brushed vs chrome).

Things to Consider

  • Frequently called expensive/pricey; one cited ~$703 for a full set of 4, another ~$450 front+rear.
  • Some say included screws are too small or missing nuts/too short; upgraded to longer bolts/locknuts; desire for black fasteners on black kits (silver screws stand out).
  • Reports of paint/powder coat scratching easily and flaking; concern about powder coat not as advertised or poor prep; one received brushed instead of chrome (being fixed).
  • Instructions could be clearer; requests for side labeling on brackets and/or pre-drilled holes guidance for inner fenders.
  • A few found install a bit tricky or time-consuming; sometimes required making own drill pattern; worst part noted was removing tires/wheels.
  • Full length can sit close to ground; need to be mindful backing to curbs; trimming recommended.
  • One reviewer worried the detachable bottom portion might get brittle/break in winter (not confirmed).

Just got them installed on our new 2021 RAM 3500D! Looks like a Big Rig now with the added benefit of actually effectively protecting our big “A” 44-foot 5th Wheel from being pummeled from flying road debris!

hi, i am looking for a mud flaps for my RAM 1500 TRADESMAN 2017 CREW CAB, I HAD A BUSHWACKER FENDER FLARE INSTALLED ON IT, NOT LIFTED, DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTION?

I would recommend the 12x23 full style flaps for the front and rear. This will give you the most rubber to work with while installing the flaps. It will require a bit of trimming on the front wheels but this will not effect the integrity of the flaps at all. Simply find the logo you like and select the 12x23 size. Gatorback 14" wide mud flaps are designed for lifted trucks and trucks with oversized wheels/tires. These mud flaps feature a premium rubber flap that is 14" wide by 18" long and attach to Gatorback 1.5" kickback brackets to hold the flaps back away from rubbing on the tires. The mud flaps can be installed directly onto the brackets at the standard 18" length or may be cut down to 12" to perfectly fit your truck. Due to the heavy weight of these flaps, installation will require that you need to attach the brackets to your truck with self-tapping screws through the lip of the wheel well. There isn't a better mud flap out there to protect your truck from mud, rocks and road debris!

Manufacturer Warranty-

Gatorback mudflaps are backed by a Limited lifetime warranty. This warranty covers rubber replacement (ex- tear offs) for the lifetime of the product to the original owner. It does not cover damage caused by abuse, or regular wear and tear on brackets, plates, or mounting hardware.
