At a glance

Overall sentiment is strongly positive: buyers consistently describe Gatorback/SharpTruck mud flaps as premium, heavy‑duty, great-looking, and highly effective at stopping rocks/mud/snow from hitting paint, steps, and trailers. The main reservations are the high price and occasional installation/fitment or hardware/packaging issues, which are often mitigated by responsive customer service and strong warranty support.

What Customers Liked

  • Thick, heavy rubber with substantial weight plates; feels “OTR/semi-truck grade,” doesn’t flap at highway speeds, flexible in cold weather, holds up through winters, gravel roads, mud, and years of use; many repeat buyers across multiple trucks.
  • Significantly reduces rock chips, road debris, mud/salt spray on paint, rocker panels, running boards/power steps, cameras, and keeps trailers/5th wheels/RVs cleaner and protected; coverage often better than OEM or plastic splash guards.
  • Looks “sharp,” classy, and truck-specific; logo/plate options (Z71, AT4X, Ford, Ram, Duramax, flags, black/satin/gunmetal/chrome) get compliments and help the truck stand out; finishing caps appreciated.
  • Many report perfect/vehicle-specific fit with factory-hole mounting, adjustable in/out positioning, good clearance with stock tires, and compatibility with certain trims/fender flares when configured correctly.
  • Generally described as straightforward with the right tools; helpful YouTube videos; bracket kits (especially rear/dually) add stability and make alignment easier; ability to install without removing wheels on some vehicles.
  • Frequent praise for fast shipping, responsive support, quick exchanges for wrong parts, replacement parts/plates/flaps shipped rapidly, and hassle-free warranty (including tears/rips or shipping damage).
  • Replaceable plates; removable lower section on some models for off-road clearance; ability to adjust flap stick-out; some like drilling only into plastic liner (not body).

Things to Consider

  • Most common complaint; many call them expensive/overpriced (often $600–$1000+), sometimes compounded by needing separate bracket kits/plates; some say alternatives may be “good enough” for less.
  • Mixed experiences: some installs are quick, others take hours—especially rear/dually, with wheel-well liners, rock rails/steps, or limited access; right-angle drill and/or removing rear wheels often recommended; alignment can be finicky.
  • Paper instructions sometimes vague, lacking steps, inconsistent with videos, or confusing (hardware ID, left/right orientation, templates, washer placement); requests for better labeling, templates, and model-specific videos.
  • Occasional reports of holes not lining up, needing to drill/elongate slots, bend/trim brackets, trim liners/trim pieces, or create homemade brackets; some rubbing with oversized tires/offset wheels; a few cases of poor fit on specific trims/years.
  • Multiple reviewers note drilling is still required (usually into plastic liner or flap), so ‘no-drill’ feels misleading in some kits.
  • Some dislike plastic clips/nut inserts pulling out/stripping, mixed metric/SAE hardware, bolt length issues, flimsy/galvanized or plastic brackets at high price, silver hardware visible (wish black), occasional missing/mismatched hardware or parts.
  • Some flaps/plates arrived scuffed/scratched or boxes damaged; brackets loosening in transit; a few wrong items shipped or missing pieces (spacers/washers/clips), though support often resolves quickly.
  • Some note low ground clearance depending on model/height; concerns about snagging in deep snow, tall grass, or off-road obstacles; some wish flaps were longer/shorter depending on use.
  • Plate finish can streak/stain (e.g., gunmetal), color/gloss differs from expectations, logos not level in a few cases, and some wish flaps came pre-slotted/pre-drilled for easier install.

I'm satisfied overall. You might have to pay premium price for it, but the manufacturing and quality of the materials are, in my opinion, top notch. The mudflaps with the plate gives it a heavy/solid feel, which is great, especially when you are driving fast, wet roads, and/or on rocky terrain. Additionally, I like how you can replace the plates in the event you get tired of the ones you have. I might buy either the High Country or Chevy logo plates in the future.

Additionally, the bolt that secures the mudflaps retention bracket against the fender flare is too short. I was glad that I have same size but longer bolts in my garage. I wish Gatorback could supply a bolt that is, at least, a half inch longer so that customers would not have a hard time. See pics.

Finally, my dually has the factory wheel liner installed. I had to trim the liners and cut slits on them to accommodate the bracket. Not sure if it compromises the integrity of the liner but we'll find out in the future. I probably could've cut slits instead off trimming parts on the liner but I didn't want to go through the trouble. See pics of the liner to see what it takes to install one.

Wow, doesn’t these mudflaps help complete the look to the rear of the truck. They are made with thick rubber and you can definitely tell these flaps are not from the cheap store. I know they will look good for years to come. Thank you Sharp Truck for offering these awesome mudflaps.

Equip your GMC Sierra 3500 HD dually with the Truck Hardware Gatorback Stainless Plate Dually Mud Flaps and experience the ultimate in protection and style. Unlike the other Gatorback mud flap options, this set installs over the existing mud protectors, giving you enhanced tire coverage and superior protection. The other option uses a front flap finishing cap for a refined OEM look but offers less tire coverage. If you're seeking maximum protection with a premium aesthetic, these Gatorback mud flaps are your perfect match.

The front pair of mud flaps features a stainless steel upper bracket with a 2" kickback, formed to follow the contours of the factory protector in the wheel well. They provide an additional 8.75" of tire coverage below the fender and do not require the removal of the OEM protector. This makes them ideal for those who value both rugged durability and ease of installation. The flaps are made from 1/2" thick virgin rubber to provide maximum resilience and are supported by a polished 304 stainless steel plate that won't rust or corrode.

The rear pair of mud flaps, custom-fit for 2020-2026 GMC Sierra 3500 HD dually models, delivers 13.25" of tire coverage from the bottom of the fender, effectively shielding your truck from rocks, mud, gravel, snow, and other road debris. The heavy-duty rubber flaps, paired with stainless steel support brackets, ensure your vehicle remains cleaner for longer, reduce step bar mess, and minimize rock chips on your paint.

Key Features

  • Superior Tire Coverage: Offers 8.75" of front tire coverage and 13.25" of rear tire coverage, providing enhanced protection against road debris, mud, and grime.
  • 304 Polished Stainless Steel Bracket: Features polished stainless steel upper brackets that resist rust and corrosion, maintaining a premium look for years to come.
  • Heavy-Duty Virgin Rubber Construction: Constructed from 1/2" thick premium rubber to withstand tough road conditions and keep your truck protected.
  • Effortless Installation: Installs using factory mounting points—no body drilling required. Includes all brackets and hardware for a secure and straightforward installation.

These Gatorback mud flaps are designed with ease of installation in mind. Installation is made simple by using the factory's existing fasteners, mounting locations, and custom-designed brackets. If additional fasteners are needed, the set includes all the necessary hardware and brackets for a solid, secure fit. The mud flaps mount overtop of the factory protectors, extending down for additional tire coverage and increased vehicle protection.

The front stainless steel plate measures 10 1/4" x 5", adding a stylish touch while protecting your truck. The rear pair features custom-fit brackets that ensure an easy installation using the factory mounting points. With installation taking about 15 minutes per flap, you can quickly fit them at home with standard tools.

The rugged design and quality finish of these mud flaps make them the ideal complement to your GMC Sierra, ensuring it stays cleaner, better protected, and looking great. Backed by a limited lifetime warranty, the Gatorback Stainless Plate Mud Flaps are crafted to last and protect your investment.

  • Kickback: A design feature that offsets the mud flap away from the tire, offering increased tire clearance and improved coverage.
  • 304 Stainless Steel: A type of stainless steel known for its excellent resistance to corrosion and rust, making it ideal for automotive use.
  • Virgin Rubber: Rubber that has not been recycled or reclaimed, ensuring superior strength, flexibility, and durability.

Warranty

Truck Hardware Gatorback Stainless Plate Dually Mud Flaps are backed by a limited lifetime warranty. This warranty covers the rubber portion against tear-offs for the lifetime of the product for the original owner. The warranty provides peace of mind, offering a replacement if the rubber flaps come off due to normal wear and tear. Damage resulting from abuse or regular wear on brackets, plates, or mounting hardware is not covered.

Product Care & Maintenance

  • Stainless Steel Plates: To maintain the polished finish, clean the plates regularly with a soft cloth and a mild detergent cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that could scratch or damage the surface. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft cloth to maintain the polished look.
  • Virgin Rubber: Clean the rubber portion using a mild soap and water solution. Avoid harsh chemicals or petroleum-based cleaners, as these can degrade the rubber over time. Rinse thoroughly and allow the mud flaps to air dry for the best results.

For GMC Sierra owners looking for a combination of rugged protection and a polished look, the Truck Hardware Gatorback Stainless Plate Dually Mud Flaps are an excellent choice. With unmatched tire coverage, easy installation, and a durable construction, these mud flaps are designed to provide superior protection while enhancing the appearance of your truck.
