Tips for Cleaning Bugs from Your Vehicle

Depending on where you live and the time of the year keeping bugs from the front of your vehicle can be a time consuming endeavor. If the bug residue is not removed from you vehicle in a timely manner the cleanup job only gets bigger and the risk to permanent damage to your paint increases. Below are some tips for removing bugs from paint or glass.

Removing bugs from a painted surface

Start with a thorough wash. This should remove many of the stains and start to loosen the tougher stains.

If after the wash there are only a few tough stains remaining you can spray WD40 on a rag and remove them fairly easily. This process works well but is inefficient when there are a lot of stains or the stains are over a large area.

For large areas of tougher stains use a bug remover solution like Auto Magic VOC Bug Remover and a paint safe scrubber like the Hi-Tech EZ Scrub Bug Block. These two products working in conjunction will cut any bug cleaning job down to size. Wet the area with water. Dilute the bug remover as suggested by manufacturer. Dip the bug block into the solution and scrub stains. Rinse regularly so the bug remover solution does not dry on the finish.

Removing bugs from glass

Here again the thorough wash should clean much of the bug stains.

For the tough stains on glass do not use WD40. WD40 will leave an oily film on glass that is hard to remove.

For tough stains on glass, soak the stain well with water or a glass friendly bug remover solution like Auto Magic VOC Bug Remover. Dilute the bug remover as suggested by manufacturer.  Saturate a rag with the solution and then lay it over the areas with the tough stains. Resaturate the rag as needed and continue soaking the stains until they loosen. Scrub the area with a sponge until the stain is gone, rinse, and use a microfiber cloth to finish the job.
